چکیده
The "Mechanisms of Eukaryotic Transcription" meeting at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, organized by Stephen Buratowski (Harvard Medical School), Katherine Jones (The Salk Institute for Biological Studies) and John Lis (Cornell University), counted with 364 registered attendees, 64 speakers and 215 posters. Top-notch researchers in a very dynamic and collegial atmosphere chaired eight sessions. Here, I discuss selected presentations of each session from an impressive list of speakers. I apologize in advance to speakers whose work I did not discuss due to space constraints.

Investigating FGF11 gene transcription level in cancer cells among colorectal cancer patients
Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the fourth leading cause of cancer-caused death around the world. Reports of the unnecessary transcription of family genes of the fibroblast growth factor in several types of cancer indicate the role of these factors in tumorgenesis and progression of cancer. Therefore, the level of FGF11 transcription was evaluated in colorectal cancer tumor tissues relat...
متن کاملP 129: The Role of Overexpression Transcription Factor BRN 4 in Multiple Sclerosis
Adult neurogenesis is a process of producing nerve cells from their progenitor that occurs in some areas in the brain such as the hypothalamus. Low activity in this area plays a role in neural degeneration and diseases such as multiple sclerosis, epilepsy and depression. MS is a neurodegenerative disease with a permanent disability that the main reason for it is axonal degeneration and neuronal...
متن کاملTranscriptional Coactivator CBP Facilitates Transcription Initiation and Reinitiation of HTLV-I and Cyclin D2 Promoter
HTLV-I is the etiologic agent for adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATL) and HTLV-I-associated myelopathy/tropical spastic paraparesis (HAM/TSP). Taxi, the major activator of this virus, is a 40- kDa (353 amino acid) phosphoprotein, predominantly localized in the nucleus of the host cell, which functions to trans-activate both viral and cellular promoters. Recently it has been shown that HTLV-I a...
متن کاملGene regulation network fitting of genes involved in the pathophysiology of fatty liver in the mice by promoter mining
Background and Aim: Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) is the major cause of chronic liver disease in developed countries. In this study, we identified the most important transcription factors and biological mechanisms affecting the incidence of fatty liver disease using the promoter region data mining. Materials and Methods In this study, at first, the marker genes associated with this...
متن کاملC-terminal fragments of APP: Its neurotoxic mechanisms and involvement in gene transcription
Several lines of evidence suggest that some neurotoxicity in AD is due to proteolytic fragments of APP. In this study, we compared the potency of neurotoxicity induced by CT with that of A-beta neurotoxicity and our results showed that various CT peptide fragments (CTFs; CTF99, AICD, CTF31) caused neurotoxicity in cultured cells and primary cortical neurons, induced strong non-selective inward ...
متن کاملIsolation and identification macrocyclic spermine alkaloid(protoverbine) from verbascum speciosum.
The 17-membered macrocyclic spermine alkaloid protoverbine (8-phenyl-1,5,9,13-tetra azacycloheptadecan-6-one) was isolated From the aerial part of verbascum speciosum. The natural polyamines are ubiquitous bases reported to have several important functions in animals, plants and microorganisms. They are involved in processes of transcription and translation in protein synthesis and influence gr...
